Late Night Cake

One of my favorite things about working on a college campus is the surprise sweets. One of my students had a birthday today and her friend had left over cake. I enjoy cake especially when it’s free. I’m not sure why cake became the usual celebration treat of another year of life on this Earth? How did this happen? Was there a cake lobby and they used their funds to influence the countries of this world to use cake instead of pastries? Like cookies, brownies, and macaroons? In my free time, I’ll have to investigate and research how this came to be. Also, I want to look at other cultures who have pastries at funerals. If we celebrate another year of life, should we not celebrate death? I am spitballing here. If there is an anthropologist reading this please send me an email. There has to be an answer to the differences between death and life celebrations amongst the cultures here on our planet. Until I learn this information, I shall eat my hunk of cake: albeit piece by piece.
